AC9260 chromecast compatibility issue

$

As the title suggests, i have the AC9260 in my MSi gaming laptop. I swapped out the garbage Killer 1435 card for the 9260 and have wave2 Mikrotik cAP's on the way to play with the speed!

I have run into an issue since swapping the card however. Before swapping, chrome's "cast" to my chromecast worked fine, both tab cast and desktop cast. Since swapping in the 9260, it will cast for a few seconds then freeze on the screen but still play audio.

i did update to the lastest drivers last night, 20.30.1.2. However it still persists.

I did verify it is not the laptop itself, i disconnected the 9260 wifi, plugged in a USB ac adapter, and casting worked perfect on it.

(yes windows 10 on latest build)

May just be a driver bug on a newer card?

They only "support" the killer 1435, which drops connection every couple minutes. Every purchaser has changed the wireless card, most go with the 8265 (I just installed 3 8265's in the same laptops at work.)

The 9260 + bluetooth both work flawless on everything. I had the card in for atleast 2 weeks before i went to use chromecast, at which point it did take me a while to realize why my laptop wouldnt cast anymore

btmshellex.dll file is missing, which is preventing the bluetooth driver from installing.  Is there anywhere to get a legitimate copy of btmshellex.dll file from intel?

What happens when you install/reinstall the wlan/bluetooth driver from your system manufacturer?

Provide the laptop/desktop model number and/or motherboard model number.

Provide the operating system version.  If windows 10, what did you upgrade from?

Provide a link to your system specifications on the manufacturer website.

The “dmesg” shows following error messages:

Iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0:  Queue 2 stuck for 10000ms

….

Iwlwifi 0000:02:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000

Complete logs are attached.

We would like to know why this issue occurs and are there other conditions which can cause such crashing.

Hello Rolando,

We understand that the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 on your Windows® 10 computer has become disabled.

Since you've already tried a clean installation of the drivers, and it has not helped, it's possible that you may be facing a hardware failure.

Please try using the Network Reset tool:

1. Select the Start button, then select Settings  > Network & Internet  > Status > Network reset.
2. On the Network reset screen, select Reset now > Yes to confirm.

Wait for your PC to restart and see if that fixes the problem. If not please share the following information in order to investigate:

1. Intel® System Support Utility report
    1. Download the latest Intel® SSU.
    2. While connected to your WiFi network, run the scan for "everything."
    3. Save and name the report.
2. Wireless Autoconfig report
    1. Right click your start menu icon and select Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.
    2. Enter: netsh wlan show wlanreport
    3. Go to C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\WlanReport\
    4. Upload the wlan-report-latest.html file along with your reply.
3. Is this the original adapter, or an upgrade part?

You may also want to engage your computer manufacturer for hardware support.

Best regards
Carlos A.

Apologies for not acknowledging your latest question sooner. I've confirmed that it's OK for your Wireless PAN DHCP Server to be set to Manual, this is the default setting.

You will need to give us a lot more information. What wireless card/solution are we talking about? What platform is this card/solution installed in?

If this is a desktop design, please describe it. What motherboard? What processor? What memory? Please provide true part numbers wherever possible.

If this is a laptop design, please provide its full product id. Is it the original wireless card or is it a replacement? If it is a replacement, have you verified with the manufacturer that the replacement card is supported by the platform? Note also the following: Regulatory Information Regarding Wireless Hardware Installation or Upgrade and Why Doesn't My Laptop Recognize My New Intel Wireless Adapter?

Hello Skullzaflare,

Thanks for posting.

As explained by Al Hill, connection, performance and other kind of issues are expected when replacing the wireless adapter without the assistance of the computer OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).

However, other users have reported similar issues on online forums (even though Intel® Wireless-AC 9260 is not related).

On this Google* product forums thread, an user confirmed the issue was solved after testing following:

- Make sure both Chrome Browser* and Chromecast* firmware are up to date.
- For Tab Cast, go to Chrome Browser* > Settings > Advanced > System > Disable Use hardware acceleration when available and restart the browser.

From our side, we recommend performing a clean driver installation. You can find detailed instructions about this process here:

- Clean Installation of Wireless Drivers

If the issue persists, please contact the Chromecast* Support Team.

NOTE: Links to third party sites are being offered for your convenience and should not be viewed as an endorsement by Intel of the content, products, or services offered there.

Hello snowrabbit,

Thanks for the report. There's definitely something odd going on.

We can see that you have the latest Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software installed (version 20.30.1), however, the driver version in use for your adapter is outdated.

The 20.30.1 PROSet/Wireless Software includes driver version 18.33.11.2 for the Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260. The SSU report you shared shows that you're using driver 17.15.0.5.

In this case the first thing we'd like to suggest is a clean driver installation:

1. Download the latest drivers for your adapter:
    1. WiFi: Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers
    2. BT: Intel® Wireless Bluetooth®
2. Under Programs and Features in the Control Panel, or Apps & Features in Windows* Settings, uninstall any instance of the "Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software." When prompted, choose to "discard settings."
3. Go to the Device Manager > Network Adapters > Right click on your Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 and uninstall it. Make sure to mark the option to "Delete the driver software for this device."
4. Clear out your temporary files: Press the Windows* Key + R to open the run box. Type Cleanmgr.exe and press OK. Here you will need to make sure Temporary Files are checked, you may uncheck everything else, then press OK.
5. Reboot your computer.
6. Install the drivers downloaded back in step one.

Test your connection and let us know if the issue continues.

Best regards,
Carlos A.
